Working with splashing liquids , fine powders and fast movement is a challenge to photograph well. The unpredictable nature of liquid makes it very hard to shoot. Have a look at these wonderful images – I suspect the photographer specifically shot the paint like liquid separately and then merged the different photos to create the final image.

Using a speed light with high speed sync is a great way to photograph splashing liquids. It enables the speed light to sync with high shutter speeds and capture a crisp image.
